ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) recently had their pay-per-view event, titled December to Dismember. Well, I'm having my own month-long mega event aptly named December to Remember. By Dec 15, all the grad school applications for US universities will be done. Hopefully, interviews will start coming in by end-January onwards.
Checklist .... UCSF --- done! Stanford --- done! Duke --- done! MIT --- hopefully done by Wednesday
And to top it all off, we're having this Christmas Carnival this Friday 530pm onward. Honestly, if I were'nt part of the organizing committee, I would skip this event altogether. Considering how I've been actively soliciting people to come on Friday, telling them about the wonders of spending Christmas with their colleagues at their expansive worksite, I guess I share a certain similarity with Jose Mourinho -- hypocrisy. As of now, I only have 1 person from my lab confirming his attendance ... but I shall be there at the carnival, as if there's not a good enough reason for all you people to come.
We're having a Made-in-Singapore Santa Claus, lots of drinks (read Hoegarden, Stella, wines, free-flow softdrinks, free-flow Newwater), jazz band, christmas carolling, dance performances, and a Labolympics (which as of now, only has 2 groups signed up). And of course, there's the end-of-event lucky draw (with a plasma TV, Xbox, shopping and food vouchers, ...) for the people, and an end-of-event cleaning up for us. Cool!
I'm having my Lab meeting next Thursday and a Christmas brunch for non-postdocs/grad students on Friday. This brunch is specially for lab biologists, but since research officers fall into neither category, I suppose that's why we got the invite too. Sometimes, it's good when you're neither here nor there; in that way, you get to attend both! Much like Leeds Utd is nether in the Primiership nor Div. 3 ... the Championship is the perfect division for a rebuilding process.
A christmas lunch for the entire lab follows the brunch. In a way, this is a great way to end the week. Morning: Brunch. Early afternoon: Lunch somewhere in Pasir Panjang. Late afternoon: Finishing off work, and planning for the weekend. Since we all have an unclaimed day of off, I'm wondering when I should take that day off ....
It's almost 2pm on a lazy Sunday afternoon .... time to do something more exciting than typing on my keyboard. Something like going back to bed!
